Final Project
Heya, wheres your project at? -- User:Jon Phillips
My final project is going to be based on my continued research project on the diversity of rhythms from many cultures. I have been collecting sound and footage from different countries in the past couple of years. During this time I have been building a script for a documentary that will be expressed in a montage style. My ideas of execution are always changing of course, however the intent and content are the same. My content is mostly from India, Thailand, Cambodia, some European countries {Germany, Switzerland, France, England} and USA.
My goal is to connect the diversity of pulse, rhythum, energy, motion, emotion, movement, and patterns of differnt cultures. Showing a similar thread taht may connect the pulses of everyday life mundane activities to a more sacred intentional motion. Perhaps this will be expressed in a stream of consciousness sort of flow. Thsi is why I chosses to craete a montage with either sound from the origanl footage, or also adding a soundtrack overlapped.
So far I have been working with Premire, Aftereffects, Audacity, Protools.

- Ecce Homology - This group has some projects very similar to what you are doing with brain waves. They focus on visual systems, but also have some audio work associated with their project.
- Sounding the Inner Landscape, by Kay Gardner - Book about various spiritual concepts relating to sound.
Personal FAQ
What experience do you have with sound software and what kind?
I have used sound edit16, Protools {full edition}, some Rebirth, Reseaon, and Audacity.
What experience do you have with programming and what kind?
I have craeted acouple of patches in Max MSP/Jitter. Otherwise I have colaberated with a c++ programmer for my EKTA project. Helping to design the infrastructer, not actually writing the code. This seems like a comlpex learning curve! Although I am interested.
What do you know and how interested are you in Free Culture, Open Source, and Programming?
Only a little from various seminars I have went to were there was a visiting lawyer giving a talk about the legalities of these issues. {Both her in the Bay area and Boton}
What kind of experience with building speakers and external sound hardware do you have?
Zero. Only experince setting up speakers and sub woofers for events my friends and I had in Boston.

All of the above. Mostly intstallations.
Do you play an instrument and what is the instrument(s)?
I play west African drum. I have studied with a Gunie African teacher at Berkley school of music. I wish I knew how to play the piano, and sitar!
What do you want to get out of this class?
To find away into my Pulse project agian...Finding my artistic percpective with mixing sound...alone or for video. Also the historical research is interesting. As well as the New Media discussions.

No...
What kind of music are you into? Art, pop, whatever...
I DJ progressive trance, minamal techno, tribal house. I also enjoy classical music, jazz, ethnic "world beat", Tibetian , Indian flute, Chants etc..
