San Francisco Gallery Network

I don't think I'm at any capacity to take this on, but there is a definite need to build a large scale network for the San Francisco Gallery scene.

Right now it is difficult to know where galleries are at, how to get from one to the next, and what they are showing.

There is recently a newly published SF map, but there is no website, and no primary hub dedicated to the oakland arts scene.

I see the project as simple as this:

  1. Create a website (possibly with wordpress)
  2. Get galleries to create accounts on this site (or get their blog aggregated through this)
  3. Use google maps API to get gallery data onto one map
  4. Print out new gallery maps ever 2-4 months (updates are key!
  5. Publicize gallery openings on the web through mailing lists and events like First Thursdays (of the month)

Other Ideas

  • Lisa Dent said that Art Fairs are normally a big deal...host this!
  • Also, host some type of Open Studios
  • Good idea to link it with something like SFAI

art blogs

  • stretcher.org
  • shotgun-review.org
  • fecalface.com
  • galleryguide.org
  • artbusiness.com (take pictures of events for free and posts on the web)
