Bio

Overlap releases experimental music and videos, produces unique events, and provides a free blog to share your media with others. Overlap.org is based in San Francisco and our mission is to grow and support experimental culture locally, and throughout the world. 17 exclusive Overlap releases have featured a vast diversity of audio and visual artists experimenting with the overlap of different genres. 14 different Overlap events have brought people and experimentation together in the San Francisco Bay Area, New York, and London (see below, OVERLAP and LISTEN/VISION series).

Overlap was founded by musican/artist Christopher Willits and came to life with the help of Jon Philips and Kenric McDowell, Louis Rawlins, Lucky BK and other devoted artists.

Stylus, Interview http://www.stylusmagazine.com/articles/interview/christopher-willits.htm

Q : Tell us a little bit about the Overlap project that you’re involved in.
A : Overlap.org is a lens that focuses on featuring forward-thinking independent music, video, images, and live events.
All kinds of artists and media types will be featured on Overlap.org. This work will come from two places; content submitted to Overlap via RSS feeds (blogs, podcasts, vlogs), which is open to the public (we call this the Overlap commons), or unreleased content that people involved in the day-to-day operations of Overlap decide to feature on the front page. This could be a digital-only audio or video release, or recordings from a live event that we promote. Basically, we will feature cool work, distribute/syndicate it, and hopefully bring some people together on the web and at Overlap-sponsored events. We have got a solid crew on board, and already have some fine content to share, so it's going to be interesting to watch it grow. The site goes live later this fall.

Chris McNamara Vague Cities Release

“…Meanwhile, muffle & echo help shape the slow washes of Chris McNamara’s Vague Cities on Overlap (via Ghostly): the crepuscular Trimalchio, Sleeping Car/Shunting Yard’s serene accretions, the darker unfurling of et puis, the gradual march of Subsandtaxis in Markus Guenter’s remix.”

FLOSSIN Release

Praise from DISQUIET DISQUIET says its “…a heady psychedelic ride… of pulsing, pounding, flailing post-melodic rock.” http://disquiet.com/2009/02/20/willits-hill-guests-flossin-cosmic-mp3/

Pitchfork

Pitchfork states: “–Flossin– it’s not just for teeth and gums anymore! …pay attention to Flossin, the bonkers experimental band led by ambient maestro Christopher Willits and Hella drum nut Zach Hill.”
