This project is part of the midwest rehabilitation set of projects. I realized that many families in the midwest, mine included, often took vacations by traveling really far distances in a car. Often, this driving to foregrounds the actual trip. I once took a trip with my parents to Yellowstone and remember barely even getting out of the car.
Last night, upon visiting my parents, I realized that this experience is so very similar to many in the midwest of viewing a tv. Now, with flatscreens in nearly every establishment with sports on, this viewing into the external world is so common.
The same can be said about going to a pre-packaged concert at a large venue like St Louis Riverport Amphitheatre or other similar massive locations, where the audience is so big, they end up watching the performer on a large screen, not unlike the one that so many watch so many hours on at home.
For this project, I want to get a car, and attach flatscreens to a generic midwest car, like a buick, or oldsmobile, or ford taurus, and record footage of traveling to different locations in the USA, from my parents home with cameras for each window, then play them back on the screens in a live setting, but allow people to enter into the car.
After this first version, I will play with installing other types of screens in house for the windows, porches, or other areas and shoot footage to match these scenes.
