An online community which encourages and disseminates free culture through Creative Commons licenses in and about New Orleans.
Possible projects:
- A repository for audio matter in and around New Orleans, particularly sounds that are threatened by environmental and industrial change.
- A place to release digital media created by people in and around New Orleans using Creative Commons licenses
- A platform for engaging artists around the world to remix the art hosted on Renola.org.
- Host CC Salon.
- A place for hosting open source software projects based out of Louisiana Universities and other institutions.
- A way to generate new ideas in a city that desperately needs them.
- Create events and open collaborations internationally.
- Help push to make New Orleans a global cultural and intellectual centre for the 21st Century.
- Promote experimental social, cultural, and artistic movements within the New Orleans area and at large.
- Become a forum for discussion between people and artists within the city and the larger international community. New Orleans is still very much a place that captivates the imaginations of people, and by creating a center for the exchange of artistic, cultural, and social ideas and values, it will close a much needed disconnect between the city and world around it-- a large group of people still only thinks of 2005 when new orleans is mentioned. People need to be made more aware that New Orleans is as vibrant of a place as ever, and that real efforts and progress are being made to revitalize the city.
