I made a project when in grad school which listened to gnutella p2p traffic and then just printed the output in a list for all to see what people were searching for. It shows some disconnected visual of what people want, or are desiring to find at a given time. Search Realidad is a project to further expose the searches within a network and display them in various ways. The initial output is to be a scrolling commandline output, but others are also possible as well, such as visual, streaming, text2speech and more.
The simplest method of production is a faux commandline on a flat screen or projector with scrolling output of local file sharing and bittorrent traffic, with search terms visualized in a scrolling list. This would be supplemented with a web-based application visible from the exhibition website, or separate website.

Google's List
NOTE: After visiting Google's mountain view campus, they have this scrolling list, but it is heavily sensored since something like 50% of all searches are sex-related, on the Internet!
