FreedomPact.org is a community project taking place actively on MONDAY, APRIL 27, 2010, the day after the world "intellectual property" organization's annual WORLD IP day. The goal is to encourage people, groups and organizations to move to Free As In Freedom software, content, and services, taking a pledge with others around the world to be executed on or before APRIL 27, 2010.

Specific pledge actions:

  • Software (users)
    • Migrate one or more proprietary applications to free software, e.g.:
      • IE/Safari/Opera -> Firefox/Chrome
      • MS Office -> OpenOffice
      • Photoshop -> GIMP
      • Illustrator -> Inkscape
      • MS Windows/OS X -> Ubuntu/Fedora/etc.
  • Software (developers)
    • Release your proprietary code as free software
  • Content (users)
    • Blog your top 5 (or more) Free Content finds (albums, books, etc.)
    • Immerse yourself in Free Music -- only listen to same for a week, then write about it
  • Content (creators)
    • License your content under a Free license (including dropping NC and ND terms from existing licenses used), e.g.
      • Photos
      • Your blog
      • Music
      • Writings
  • Services (developers)
    • Release source code for your web application, under a Free license
    • Ensure non-private content shared via your application is, or at least can be, under a Free license
    • Ensure your application supports free media formats (e.g., Ogg Vorbis, Theora)
    • Make your web application fully FSD/OSSD compliant
  • Services (users)
    • Migrate from a proprietary service to a free service or self-hosting, e.g.,
      • Twitter -> Identi.ca
