Magazines in their present form are dead. Is it not a better effort to take a sampling of articles from Wikipedia and print them out into a monthly magazine? It is more interesting than a opining sole author, letters to the editor, and the publishing of the endless strew of gadgets one already knows about.

As part of this IDEA, over 2009, I'm going to do a better job of contributing to Wikipedia. My account at present (and check the timestamp on my Wikipedia edit history) is weak upon writing this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Jon_Phillips
