While many people get addicted to creating virtual cities in SimCity and organisms in Spore, why not create a real new city altogether. This could be a very intensive project where land is selected, and procedures are followed to create the best city residents want to. It could be technologically advanced, self-sustaining, maintain an electronic government, and try out many innovative ideas that are too difficult for pre-established cities.

In the past I discussed this idea with Inkscape co-founder, Bryce Harrington and Creative Commons Vice President, Mike Linksvayer, as an idea which could merit many interesting projects. Also, the knowledge class in the United States consisting of technologists are ideal for the creation of a city as the average age increases, workers get married, have kids, and then do not need to work as hard for companies. The disposable income of these households and skillsets would be ideal to build a city.

Where would such a city be hosted at? Montana? Who would be interested in starting a city?

I for one am completely interested in starting fresh within the infrastructure of a country that would support this endeavour. Montana immediately comes to mind as a great state to start such an initiative due to its inexpensive property, somewhat relaxed laws, and because I have friends living there!

I would even take this New City a step further to make it sustaianble of a certain type of work, akin to the work unit concept of some countries. If the workers were purely software and hardware engineers, contracts could be accepted, services offered, all while staying in a remote location.

Questions that still need to be answered include the name of the new city, who would be interested in starting it, in what country, and in what province/state? Also, would laws for a location even support this prospect?

Regardless, a large sum of money would need to be raised in order to seed the initiation of a New City.
